Shankh Air, a new airline from Uttar Pradesh, is set to launch by the end of 2024 after receiving approval from India’s civil aviation ministry. This development positions Shankh Air as the first scheduled airline based in the state, with operational hubs in Lucknow and the upcoming Noida International Airport. The airline aims to enhance connectivity by offering both inter- and intra-state routes, particularly targeting underserved regions with limited direct flight options.
Initially, Shankh Air will connect major cities such as Lucknow, Varanasi, and Gorakhpur. It will operate as a twin-class, full-service airline using a fleet of Boeing 737-800NG aircraft, which are known for their fuel efficiency and passenger comfort. The airline plans to offer modern services that cater to both business and leisure travelers, with a focus on creating a seamless travel experience.
The operational strategy for Shankh Air includes establishing key hubs in Lucknow, Jewar Airport in Noida, and New Delhi. The airline’s management team is already in place, and hiring for staff will begin shortly. Additionally, the airline is adhering to foreign direct investment (FDI) and Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) guidelines as part of its regulatory compliance efforts.
Although Shankh Air has obtained a No Objection Certificate (NOC) valid for three years, it must still secure final approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) before beginning operations. The airline’s launch comes at a time when competition in India’s aviation sector is heating up. With domestic air traffic showing steady growth, Shankh Air has the opportunity to carve out a niche by connecting high-demand, underserved regions, offering direct flights and a competitive alternative to established carriers.
