New Hand Luggage Rules: One Bag, Seven Kilograms Only

January 2, 2025

The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has announced new hand baggage regulations for air travelers. Passengers on both domestic and international flights will be limited to one cabin bag, with specific weight and size restrictions.

Weight and Size Limits

  • Economy and Premium Economy: One cabin bag not exceeding 7 kg.
  • Business and First Class: One cabin bag up to 10 kg.
  • Dimensions: Maximum size of 55 cm (height) x 40 cm (length) x 20 cm (width).

These measures aim to streamline security procedures and reduce congestion at airports. Passengers with tickets booked before May 2, 2024, are eligible for higher weight allowances:

  • Economy: Up to 8 kg.
  • Premium Economy: Up to 10 kg.
  • Business and First Class: Up to 12 kg.

However, any amendments to these bookings after May 2, 2024, will subject them to the new baggage policy.

Airline-Specific Policies

  • IndiGo Airlines: Allows one cabin bag within the specified dimensions and weight, plus a personal item (e.g., purse or laptop bag) not exceeding 3 kg.

Travellers are advised to check with their respective airlines for any additional guidelines to ensure compliance and avoid inconvenience.
