Nature enthusiasts can now explore Bhitarkanika National Park with a skywalk

August 22, 2024

Nature enthusiasts can now explore Bhitarkanika National Park from a new vantage point with the introduction of the mangrove skywalk, opening on August 1, 2024. This 600-metre wooden walkway, situated 15 feet above ground, provides a unique view of the park’s lush landscapes and diverse wildlife, including saltwater crocodiles and Olive Ridley turtles. Located in the Dangamala area, which also serves as the park’s main entrance and crocodile nesting ground, the skywalk starts at the Meta Mangrove Nursery and extends to an open field where deer frequently gather. To ensure safety and minimize environmental impact, the Forest Department will limit access to 20 visitors at a time. This new feature not only offers breathtaking views but also supports eco-tourism by reducing visitor disturbance to the delicate mangrove ecosystem.
