Maldives introduced a new Tobacco Control Act effective from 15th December 2024

The Maldives has introduced stringent regulations effective December 2024 under its amended Tobacco Control Act to combat tobacco use and its health impacts. The act completely bans the import, sale, and use of e-cigarettes and vaping devices. Tobacco sales are now restricted to individuals aged 21 and above, with mandatory age verification. Public tobacco use is prohibited in government and business premises, with penalties for violations. Additionally, all forms of tobacco advertising, sponsorship, and public displays of products are outlawed. These measures reflect the Maldives’ commitment to creating a healthier environment while enforcing strict compliance through significant fines for violations​.
