Malaysia Airlines has announced the reinstatement of direct flights between Kuala Lumpur (KUL) and Kolkata (CCU) starting December 2, 2024. This move is part of the airline’s strategy to expand its presence in India, with the addition of Kolkata bringing the total number of Malaysian Airlines’ direct destinations in India to 10. These include major cities like New Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Amritsar, Trivandrum, and Ahmedabad.
The Kuala Lumpur-Kolkata route will operate five times a week, with flights departing Kuala Lumpur at 9:35 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The return flight from Kolkata is scheduled to depart at 12:10 AM. All flights will be served by the Boeing 737-800 aircraft, known for its efficiency and comfort.
This announcement follows the successful launch of daily flights to Amritsar last month, highlighting Malaysia Airlines’ focus on expanding its operations in India. With the addition of Kolkata and increased services to other Indian cities, the airline now offers 76 weekly flights between India and Malaysia.
Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, CEO of Airlines at Malaysia Aviation Group, expressed excitement about resuming the Kolkata route. He emphasized that India remains a key market for the airline and that the increased connectivity will provide passengers with more seamless travel options, enhanced by Malaysia Airlines’ renowned hospitality. The airline’s Kuala Lumpur hub serves as a convenient gateway for travelers heading to other global destinations across Asia and beyond.
To celebrate the relaunch, Malaysia Airlines is offering special promotional fares starting at RM1,499 for a round-trip economy class ticket. The offer is available from October 8 to November 8, 2024, for travel starting December 2, 2024, under the “Time for Kolkata” campaign.
