Kuno’s Cheetah Family Grows: Two New Cubs Born, Total Count Reaches 26

February 10, 2025

In a major milestone for India’s cheetah reintroduction project, two cheetah cubs have been born at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh, taking the total cheetah population in the park to 26. This marks another success for the ambitious conservation program aimed at restoring the species to Indian grasslands.

The birth of these cubs is being celebrated by wildlife experts, as it indicates that the relocated cheetahs from Namibia and South Africa are successfully adapting to their new environment. The new additions bring hope for the long-term survival of the species in India, nearly seven decades after cheetahs were declared extinct in the country.

Kuno National Park, which has become a focal point of India’s wildlife conservation efforts, now hosts a growing cheetah population, including both adults and cubs born in the wild. Officials are closely monitoring the health of the newborn cubs, ensuring they receive adequate care in their initial weeks.

With these new births, India’s cheetah conservation initiative takes a significant step forward, reinforcing efforts to protect and expand the population. Wildlife enthusiasts and conservationists are hopeful that Kuno will soon become a thriving habitat for cheetahs in the years to come.
