India Sets Sail: Nation’s Largest Cruise Terminal Opens in Mumbai

India has unveiled its largest cruise terminal, the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal (MICT), marking a significant milestone in the nation’s maritime tourism sector. Inaugurated by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, the terminal is poised to accommodate up to one million passengers annually, handling approximately 10,000 passengers daily and five ships simultaneously.

Constructed at a cost of ₹556 crore, MICT boasts state-of-the-art facilities designed to enhance the cruise experience for travelers. Its strategic location and advanced infrastructure are expected to position Mumbai as a premier cruise hub in South Asia, attracting both domestic and international tourists.​

Beyond MICT, the Indian government is investing heavily in maritime infrastructure. Agreements totaling over ₹5,700 crore have been signed for the development of Vadhavan Port, including terminals for container, bulk, and liquid cargo. Additionally, new cruise terminals are underway in Goa and Visakhapatnam, aiming to boost regional tourism and economic growth. ​
