Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi has temporarily closed Terminal 2 (T2) from April 15, 2025, to undergo a comprehensive four-month renovation. During this period, all domestic flights previously operating from T2, including those by airlines like IndiGo and Akasa Air, have been shifted to Terminal 1 (T1).
The renovation aims to upgrade the aging T2 facility, which was originally built in 1986. Planned improvements include new flooring, refurbished washrooms, upgraded boarding bridges, and modernized interiors to enhance the overall passenger experience.
Terminal 1, which has recently seen significant expansion, is now fully prepared to handle the increased passenger volume. The expansion includes additional check-in counters, security lanes, and baggage claim belts to accommodate the redirected traffic from T2.
To ease the burden on travelers connecting between domestic and international flights, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) is also testing a new baggage transfer service between Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. This service is designed to streamline transit and reduce stress, especially since there is currently no inter-terminal train system in place.
Passengers are encouraged to double-check their airline and terminal details before arriving at the airport to avoid any last-minute confusion during this transitional phase.
