Decentralised tourism permits in Sikkim

November 19, 2024

Sikkim’s Tourism and Civil Aviation Department has decentralised the Protected Area Permit (PAP) system to improve access to Nathula Pass and Tsomgo Lake. Starting September 24, 2024, 50 daily vehicle permits will be issued through district tourism offices. Domestic tourists staying in registered accommodations in Namchi and Soreng can avail of free Nathula Pass permits, promoting longer stays and local engagement. Thirty-three percent of permits are reserved for these districts. Foreign tourists must book permits for Tsomgo Lake and nearby areas through local agencies. This initiative aims to foster sustainable tourism and boost the local economy.
