In a bid to revitalize its economy and boost global tourism, China announced an expansion of its visa-free entry program to include citizens of nine more countries starting November 30, 2024. The newly eligible countries—Bulgaria, Romania, Malta, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Estonia, Latvia, and Japan—join a growing list of nations granted visa-free access. Visitors can now stay for up to 30 days, an extension from the previous 15-day limit.
This brings the total number of countries with visa-free access to China to 38. Before the pandemic, only three nations enjoyed this privilege, which was suspended during COVID-19 restrictions. Gradual restoration began in July 2023, starting with Brunei and Singapore, followed by six other nations, including France, Germany, and Malaysia.
China’s latest move also allows visa-free entry for participants in academic and cultural exchanges, signaling efforts to strengthen people-to-people ties and improve international relations. The expansion reflects China’s post-pandemic strategy to attract more tourists and business travelers while fostering global connections.
With its rich cultural heritage and economic opportunities, China is positioning itself as a prime destination for international visitors, offering a seamless and welcoming travel experience.
