Bhutan Takes Flight: New Dubai Route and Airfare Subsidy to Boost Tourism

March 3, 2025

Bhutan is expanding its global connectivity with the launch of a new direct flight route to Dubai, further enhancing travel options for international visitors. Operated by Drukair, Bhutan’s national airline, this strategic move aims to strengthen the country’s tourism sector while providing travelers with easier access to the Land of the Thunder Dragon.

In a bid to make Bhutan more accessible, the government has also introduced an airfare subsidy, making flights more affordable for tourists. This initiative is expected to attract a larger influx of visitors, supporting the country’s post-pandemic tourism recovery and economic growth. The subsidy is part of Bhutan’s broader efforts to balance high-value, low-impact tourism while ensuring that travelers can explore the nation’s breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and sustainable tourism model.

The new Dubai route marks Bhutan’s increasing focus on Middle Eastern travelers and long-haul tourists, providing them with a direct and seamless way to experience the country’s unique charm. With improved connectivity and cost-effective travel options, Bhutan is positioning itself as a must-visit destination for global adventurers in 2025.
