Starting June 2025, Bhubaneswar’s Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) will commence direct flights to Abu Dhabi, enhancing Odisha’s global connectivity. This addition marks the fourth international destination from Bhubaneswar, following successful routes to Dubai, Singapore, and Bangkok.
Since its launch in May 2023, the Bhubaneswar- Dubai route has seen full bookings, indicating high demand for Middle Eastern connectivity. A similar response is expected to be received for the new Abu Dhabi route. Direct links to these Gulf destinations provide convenient access to Europe, North America, and Canada with just one stopover, benefiting international travelers from Odisha.
In addition to international expansions, BPIA is enhancing domestic connectivity. From April, Bhubaneswar will have direct flights to Ghaziabad (Hindon), Port Blair, and Goa, increasing the total domestic destinations to 28, with 56 daily departures and arrivals.
The airport recorded a 26.9% increase in passenger footfall in 2024 compared to the previous year, reflecting its growing prominence in India’s aviation sector.
The introduction of the Abu Dhabi route is anticipated to boost tourism and economic growth in Odisha, offering travelers more options and convenience.
