November 6, 2024

Apeejay Surrendra Park Hotels Limited (ASPHL) has introduced. The Lotus Palace Chettinad, a heritage hotel under THE Park Collection brand, located in Kanadukathan, Tamil Nadu. Known as the “Town of Palaces” near Karaikudi, this site has undergone careful restoration by ASPHL to preserve its Chettiar heritage. Believed to have been built in the late 17th century, the palace embodies the distinct architectural style and rich cultural legacy of the Chettinad region.

The 15-room palace highlights an eclectic mix of antique furniture and traditional design. The interiors feature turquoise green and black “athangudi” tiles, a signature style of the region. In contrast, the bar—named 1795 after the reputed year of the palace’s construction—adopts a soft grey palette with rattan furniture, lotus motifs, and contemporary lighting. The bar’s menu includes hand-crafted cocktails, Asian-inspired snacks, and light bites, complemented by live DJ performances. This indoor setting flows seamlessly into Aqua, a poolside bar lounge for relaxation.

The palace also houses The Red Room, showcasing vibrant red Burmese lacquer collected by Chettiar families. This room offers a unique high tea experience, alongside books and board games, and connects to The Library. The luxury Aura Spa offers a tranquil space with couple’s and individual therapy rooms, featuring built-in steam showers and treatments based on natural products. Guests can enjoy panoramic views from The Sunset Terrace, where Chettinad’s scenic beauty is on full display.

Architect Kaushik Mukherjee led the project, blending traditional Chettinad charm with modern luxury, creating a unique experience for global travelers seeking an authentic and culturally rich stay in India.
