Connecting the Skies: Tezu-Itanagar Flight Service Takes Off in Arunachal Pradesh

December 11, 2024

In a major boost to regional connectivity, flight services between Tezu and Itanagar have officially commenced, marking a significant milestone for Arunachal Pradesh’s aviation infrastructure. Operated under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme, the new route aims to enhance accessibility within the state and promote its socio-economic development.

This air service will connect Tezu, a picturesque town in eastern Arunachal, with Hollongi Airport, located near the state capital, Itanagar. The 40-minute flight drastically reduces travel time, which previously required hours by road. The route is expected to facilitate smoother travel for government officials, tourists, and locals, providing a much-needed alternative to challenging road journeys in the hilly terrain.

State officials hailed the service as a transformative step toward integrating remote areas with the rest of India. The introduction of flights aligns with the government’s broader vision to improve regional air connectivity in the Northeast and foster tourism in Arunachal Pradesh, known for its stunning landscapes and cultural heritage.

With the Tezu-Itanagar route now operational, Arunachal Pradesh is poised to witness increased tourism and economic activity, strengthening its position on India’s aviation map and bringing its hidden treasures closer to the world.
