Bhopal’s Raja Bhoj International Airport has commenced 24-hour operations, marking a significant step in boosting both national and regional air connectivity. Announced by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in a statement on Tuesday, the decision is set to enhance flexibility for airlines and operators. This move will allow for more efficient flight scheduling, enabling airlines to better utilize the airport’s infrastructure and resources.
The airport’s shift to round-the-clock operations is expected to facilitate improved planning and optimize the use of resources. By extending its operational hours, airlines will have greater freedom in scheduling flights, leading to a potential increase in air traffic. The airport is already a hub of activity, offering 220 weekly scheduled flights to nine domestic destinations, including key cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. The number of scheduled flights is projected to rise to 268 during the upcoming winter season, reflecting growing demand and increased capacity.
In addition to the extended hours, Bhopal Airport is set to witness further expansion in its flight operations. Indigo Airlines, one of India’s leading low-cost carriers, will introduce a direct flight between Bhopal and Pune, starting on October 27, 2024. This new route will offer greater convenience for travelers, further strengthening the airport’s role as a vital link in India’s domestic air travel network.
The 24-hour operations at Bhopal Airport signal a strategic move to enhance air connectivity and accommodate growing passenger traffic, providing airlines with more flexibility and passengers with better access to flights. The initiative is poised to boost both the airport’s operational capacity and its contribution to regional economic development.
