September 24, 2024

The Karnataka State Government has officially identified a site for Bengaluru’s highly anticipated second international airport. Following a thorough evaluation process, the selected location is near Nelamangala-Kunigal along National Highway 75. This initiative aims to tackle the increasing demand for air travel and enhance connectivity in the region.

Addressing Regional Needs

The new airport is set to benefit not only Bengaluru but also nearby areas such as Dabaspet, Tumakuru, and various industrial centers in northern Karnataka. It is expected to facilitate better access to the existing Kempegowda International Airport, thereby alleviating congestion and improving the overall travel experience for passengers.

With the site confirmed, the Karnataka government will now prepare to submit a proposal to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to secure the necessary approvals and clearances. Construction is anticipated to begin once these approvals are granted.

The establishment of a second international airport marks a crucial step in Bengaluru’s development, poised to drive economic growth and enhance regional connectivity. This project is vital for accommodating future air traffic needs, ensuring that air travel becomes more accessible for both local residents and businesses. By improving infrastructure, the new airport will play a significant role in supporting Bengaluru’s expanding economy and meeting the evolving demands of air travel in the region.
