Easier Access to Nathula: New Permit Facility in Rongli Boosts Sikkim Tourism

March 25, 2025

In a major boost to tourism in Sikkim, travelers can now obtain permits for Nathula Pass from Rongli, making it more convenient for those exploring the eastern part of the state. This new facility aims to ease the permit process and promote local tourism, benefiting both visitors and businesses in the region.

Previously, tourists had to secure permits only from Gangtok, which often led to long waiting times and logistical challenges. With Rongli now offering permit services, travelers heading to Nathula Pass, a key attraction near the Indo-China border, can enjoy a smoother journey without the extra detour. This change is expected to encourage more tourists to explore other hidden gems in East Sikkim, including Zuluk, Kupup, and Gnathang Valley.

The initiative is also a boon for local businesses, as more visitors passing through Rongli will lead to increased economic activity. Hotels, restaurants, and transport services in the region are likely to benefit from the higher tourist footfall.

By simplifying travel procedures, Sikkim continues to position itself as a top destination for adventure seekers and nature lovers. This step not only enhances accessibility but also strengthens the state’s reputation as a traveler-friendly destination.
